Withdrawals & Transfers Out of District (OOD)

Student Summer Withdrawals for the 2026–2027 School Year

If your family is moving or your student will not be returning to the South Orange-Maplewood School District for the upcoming 2026–2027 school year, please notify us as soon as possible so we can assist you with the transition and transfer of records.

The withdrawal process depends on your student's grade level:

PreSchool Students 

PreSchool school students must email the Preschool department for assistance.

Elementary School Students (Grades K–5)

Please send an email directly to the district withdrawal team at withdraw@somsd.k12.nj.us.

Note: This email address is strictly for elementary school student withdrawals. In your email, please include your student's full name, current school, grade, and the name/location of their new school (if known).

Secondary School Students (Grades 6–12)

The email address above is not monitored for middle or high school students. For students entering Middle School (Grades 6–8) or Columbia High School (Grades 9–12), please follow the specific withdrawal process outlined below:

Middle School Level

Middle school students must email their guidance department for assistance.

Columbia High School Requests

Columbia High School students should email Renee Florio (rflorio@somsd.k12.nj.us) in the counseling department, for assistance.  Families/parents/guardian's please download and fill out the top portion of the CHS Withdrawal form and remember to include a parent signature.  Afterward, please email it back to Ms. Florio at rflorio@somsd.k12.nj.us with the following information:

1. Proof of Signature (Copy of License) 2. Email address at the new school where you would like paperwork to be forwarded and/or transferred When the withdrawal is complete, a copy of the paperwork will be sent to the parent as well as forwarded to the new school.   Any questions, please contact Ms. Florio at the email address listed above.
