Public Legal Notices
The South Orange & Maplewood School District organizes and publishes public and legal notices in alignment with New Jersey’s Public Notice Publication Reform (S4654/A5878), which establishes official public entity websites as the primary location for required legal notices. Legal notices are posted directly on the district website, made available to the public at no cost, and are navigable from the agency homepage for easy access.
The district maintains a structured, web-based system that keeps notices current, clearly presented, and easy to locate. Each notice is displayed for the active school year and then filed into a historical archive, where it remains accessible for at least one year. This approach ensures consistency, supports compliance, and allows the public to easily reference both current and past notices.
Beginning March 1, 2026:
- Public entities will publish their legal notices on their website rather than in newspapers.
- Notices must appear on the public entities’ websites for at least one week and then must be archived for one year.
- Public entities are required to share their notice listing permalink to the Secretary of State for inclusion on the Secretary of State’s website.
- Public entities must advertise twice per month in an online news publication that provides information about where their legal notices can be obtained on the public entity’s website.
