SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS

SENIOR LEADERSHIP TEAM, SUPERINTENDENT'S OFFICE

Superintendent Jason Bing believes schools should prepare students for much more than a diploma. As the chief school administrator of the South Orange & Maplewood School District, Bing is focused on real-world readiness: building pathways through internships, apprenticeships, and partnerships with local businesses and organizations so every student leaves with opportunities that matter.

A Union Township native and proud UMass-Amherst alum, Bing started his career in the classroom before moving into leadership roles across New Jersey districts, including Bloomfield and Jersey City, where he drove gains in equity, expanded AP access, and pioneered early-college programs that let students graduate with high school diplomas and early college degrees.

Collaborative by nature, Bing believes that lasting progress starts with trust. "Once you build relationships, the work gets easier," he says. His leadership style centers on bringing voices together—families, educators, and students alike—to ensure every decision reflects shared values. His vision for SOMSD is rooted in fairness, inclusion, student well-being, and workforce readiness.

A lifelong educator, husband to a fellow educator, and father of a middle schooler, Superintendent Bing brings both professional insight and personal understanding to helm of the district. At the helm of the educational community in Maplewood and South Orange where his grandmother and aunt once lived, Bing sees the district’s potential clearly:

"SOMSD has all the components to be among the nation’s top school districts. When schools, families, and the community move together, there is no limit to what our students can achieve."
