The public schools in the municipalities of South Orange and Maplewood are open to the children of residents who are legally “domiciled” in the Village of South Orange or in the Township of Maplewood. Our ten schools educate a diverse student body of approximately 7,000 children.

We hosted a second virtual town hall for the residency confirmation that our Registration Office will be conducting for Grade 8 families at South Orange Middle School and Maplewood Middle School to outline the upcoming residency verification process for all 8th-grade students transitioning to 9th grade. This verification will now take place every three years to ensure accurate student records. Maintaining up-to-date residency data helps the district plan for class sizes, staffing, transportation, and budgeting.
