Community members are invited to our first virtual book study on April 23rd (additional dates to be announced)!

The students and families of SOMSD face complex challenges that require thoughtful discussion about root causes and shared solutions to build a stronger community. Each year, the District will explore one of these issues through a book study, group discussions, and community-wide workshops.

This year’s book: The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt
This powerful book examines the impact of screen-based childhoods and social media on adolescent mental health.

Our discussions will be guided by Five Big Questions:
📖 What challenges do children face in today’s world?
📖 How can we support children’s well-being and personal growth?
📖 How can families and schools prepare children for the future?
📖 How can we balance technology use with meaningful human connections?
📖 How can we strengthen social connections and community bonds?

Look out for registration details in late March! The first book study session will be virtually on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 7:00 PM. 

In the meantime, you can find The Anxious Generation at local bookstore Words in downtown Maplewood or online.
