School Hours and Emergency Updates

In the event of inclement weather, caregivers and residents in Maplewood and South Orange should refer to this page for school operating statuses and closures. 

During delayed openings, all elementary and middle schools will delay opening for two hours, including the Preschool Program. South Mountain YMCA Before Care programs will not be in service. All CHS students and staff should report to school at 10:00 am. 

All-Day Closures
If the South Orange & Maplewood School District must close for any reason, residents should refer to the somsdk12.org website and @somsdk12 social media profiles.

Announcements will be made on the following the following TV stations:
News12 NJ, WNBC (Ch. 4), WABC (Ch. 7), WNYW (Ch. 5), 
and Columbia Cable Network (Ch. 35 in Maplewood, FIOS Channel 22 in Maplewood and Channel 19 in South Orange)

and the following AM radio station – WINS (1010)

The South Orange & Maplewood School District communications office will contact residents, staff, school providers, and public safety offices in Maplewood Township and South Orange Village to announce any changes to daily school operating status. Please make sure your contact information is up to date by completing the online contact forms found in the PowerSchool Parent Portal.
